Three years after the release of Windows Vista along came Windows 7, with much fanfare. Part of the Windows family and in a short time span for Microsoft had to release a new version pretty damn quick. Vista had so many problems especially with speed and the really NAFF ram restrictions. Win 7 is released in no less than 7 versions; again quite useless the the PC commnity as a whole! From the M$ designation Blackcomb (originally the much vaunted Longhorn) came Vienna which the became Windows 7. Notwithsatnding the technology behind Windows 7 it was issued as a beta for everyone to test, a most unusual event for M$ and I had many months playing with it. The test download was the Ultimate Edition. So not only did we have the Tech experts out there evaluating the new OS but the main user community who were prepared to to do the same; remember, it is the main users who now the OS and all these reports have made a differnce to how the new OS works, M$ having taken response automatically reporting to Redmond. SO far so good. The average user is the retail market and that market will be supplied with Windows 7 Home Premium. With installations so far I have had no problems (OEM). With retail versions, a direct purchase, has also met with little aggro, however some printers and scanners are unable load. USB flash drives, USB cameras et al have so far loaded without issue.
Anyway, just to add a comment from Bill: (Source Wikpedia )
'Bill Gates, in an interview with Newsweek, suggested that this version of Windows would be more "user-centric". Gates later said that Windows 7 would also focus on performance improvements. Steven Sinofsky later expanded on this point, explaining in the Engineering Windows 7 blog that the company was using a variety of new tracing tools to measure the performance of many areas of the operating system on an ongoing basis, to help locate inefficient code paths and to help prevent performance regressions.'
Oh, that helps!
Ok, that's the short and very basic intro to Win 7; so what does it do or provide! Picture credits: neowin
