Welcome to my recommended software page....

which deals with software that is free or open source, tested under Vista SP2, Win 7 Ultimate and XP Professional SP2. It is assumed at this stage that the following software should work under Win XP as well. The intention here is to look at software that can equal or surpass paid for versions. Why use or pay for simplistic programs when open source or free stuff works better!

ALL SOFTWARE HAS BEEN TESTED IN WIN VISTA, XP AND 7

AND IS SPYWARE/MALWARE AND VIRUS FREE

ALL MY LINKS ARE TO VALID AND VERIFIED SITES

INSTANCE:

You buy a digital camera and it comes with the CD. You load it because....you are told to. You then plug the camera in and the supplied software opens and gives you all the options (of minimal use anyway ).

As a matter of fact when you plug your camera into the USB, XP, Vista and Win 7 will recognise your camera as an external drive. That's all you need and so does your box. Windows XP and above handle this fairly well but there is software out there in the ether that will allow you to control the pics you have happily snapped.

One of the problems I have with supplied software is that it requires you register, input a lot of personal details and then spam your inbox with updates, special offers and crapona from 'associated' companies. NEVER install the supplied software. You do NOT need to install the driver for your new gadget. Why is it this type of software supplied with your new product? Ah, to send you to 'special offer sites' and then buy an upgrade to the purchase. Like a bigger/better memory card, the extended warranty??? For god's sake.

Plug your camera into the USB and it will be seen as an external drive; you can use any

Basically, all you want to do is manipulate your pics, holiday snaps and the wedding that might or could have prevented!

So, you want to empower your jpg pic?

OK here we go: check out the three following software available:

PhotoFiltre  Good and resource light program. Manifold manipulations, play with it.

GIMP  A near match for Photoshop; this is a powerful program and plenty of forum support. The user manual is online!

Paint.net Again, another useful additon to the apps library.
